Sparkleberry Swamp

Paddle through Cypress and Tupelo trees in this incredible blackwater cypress swamp. Known for its breathtaking scenery and amazing wildlife with over 150 bird species, this flooded forest is like no other. The brillant green canopies, purple Water Hyacinth, yellow Spadderdock and white water lilies enfold you in color as you move across open water to dense wilderness and back out through tall grasses. It’s a diverse eco-system with Bald Eagles, Osprey, Barred Owls, Red- Shouldered Hawks and an array of wading birds. Paddle to Church Island where the Church of Epiphany once stood before towns were flooded to create Lake Marion. Step out of your kayak to explore the church’s burial ground dating back to 1804.
